Sitting in the Northwest quadrant of DC, Petworth is one of the most residential neighborhoods in the area. Over the past decade, the city has become much more populated and trendy, attracting an array of individuals and families.

The residential neighborhood features a mix of terraced houses and single-family homes. 

Some History

Established on land purchased by developers in the late 1800s, the neighborhood became much more populated with the development of the streetcar line along Georgia Avenue to the border of Silver Spring, Maryland.
 
From the 1920s through the 1930s, thousands of small brick row houses were constructed in the neighborhood, which can still be seen today.

Petworth Neighborhood

Petworth DC is an up-and-coming neighborhood that has seen steady redevelopment since the early 2000s. With an increasing population and diversification of Petworth, you can expect a mix of professionals and families that have made their way to the area. 

Location

Petworth DC is bounded to the east by the Armed Forces Retirement Home and Rock Creek Cemetery, to the west by Arkansas Ave. NW, to the south by Rock Creek Church Rd. NW and Spring Rd. NW, and to the north by Kennedy St. NW.

 

Transportation

Petworth is one of the more  car-friendly neighborhoods in the area but is also accessible via public transportation. The Petworth Metro station is off Georgia Ave., and the Green and Yellow Metro lines both run through the neighborhood.

  • President Lincoln’s Cottage: A retreat that housed Lincoln while he was visiting soldiers and developing the Emancipation Proclamation.
