Mount Vernon Square DC is a neighborhood located in Northeast area of the district. 

Like many of the neighborhoods around DC, Mount Vernon Square features a rich history but these days the neighborhood is an attractive place to live with a plethora of entertainment options and even the transportation needed to visit any of the lively neighborhoods nearby.

Some History

Mount Vernon Square is a historic neighborhood within Washington, DC.

In the 1800’s, Mount Vernon Square was home to the Northern Liberties Market, a flourishing market within the neighborhood.

While the market was eventually taken down, the area continued to develop and in the 1900’s Carnegie Library was constructed. Carnegie Library served as the city’s central public library in the mid 1900’s.

Mount Vernon Square Neighborhood

Mount Vernon Square DC is a lively neighborhood with great restaurants, little shops, and some history. Mount Vernon is near what is considered downtown and features a liveliness of its own while also being close to some of the most popular areas like Chinatown and Penn Quarter.

Location

Mount Vernon Square is located at the intersection of New York Avenue NW and Massachusetts Avenue. Bordering to its north is the Shaw neighborhood and to its south is Penn Quarter and Chinatown.

 

Transportation

 

Mount Vernon Square is serviced by the Mount Vernon Square Station. The station provides service for the Green and Yellow lines.
