Ivy City DC is a very small neighborhood in the Northeast quadrant of the District..

Ivy City, once an industrial hotspot, these days offers a wide variety of restaurant and bar options. Ivy City may be best known for their distilleries and winery’s that occupy some of the many warehouses that populate the area.

The Ivy City neighborhood features primarily condos, townhouses, and apartment buildings.

Some History

Ivy City was late to begin its development into the desirable place to call home that its trying to become. Starting in the 2012’s many distilleries began to open around the neighborhood and has really become what Ivy City is known best for. In 2014, Hetch’s Warehouse, a famous Ivy City landmark was renovated, and the space turned into apartments and space for various shops.

Ivy City Neighborhood

Ivy City DC was a once heavily industrial area that is continuing to develop. Small coffee shops and new restaurants continue to pop up around the neighborhood in addition to their already flourishing winery and distillery scene.

The neighborhood isn’t home to any public schools and isn’t particularly close to any Washington Metro station, something to consider if you plan on using public transportation.

Ivy City is located in Northeast, Washington DC.

 

Transportation

 

For transportation, residents of Ivy City will want to have their own vehicle due to the lack of public transportation options. For those that use public transportation, in Ivy City the most popular option is one of the metrobus lines. Ivy City is not serviced by a Washington Metro station and isn’t all that close to any station nearby.

  • US National Arboretum– beautiful gardens and some history at the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum inside.

  • The Lincoln Cottage where President Lincoln stayed from 1862 – 1864
