Some History
Anacostia is named after a tribe in the 1600’s that inhabited the land along the Anacostia River. Anacostia, once known as Uniontown, is one of DC’s oldest suburbs. Originally Anacostia was meant to be an affordable neighborhood for the working class of Washington, DC and still these days embodies many of those values.
